I want to be a Brilliant Diamond and a Shining Pearl

As someone who grew up playing the older versions of the game (Blue/Red), playing the newer Sun/Moon and Sword/Shield versions really threw me for a loop. Since then, I didn’t find myself motivated to play them. I don’t personally have anything against the Sun/Moon and Sword/Shield games since they did introduce their own new styles. Call me a bit old school but I do like the characters in their square forms, not only for its chibi art style but the fact that it made the character easier to see.

I remember being crazy excited to play the revamp version of Ruby/Sapphire since they were one of the first games I really loved. When I learned about the revamp of Diamond/Pearl, I realized that something about the earlier kinds of gameplay and the pixels was a selling point for me.

Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl introduced capturing Pokémon through the underground which I thought was one of the coolest ideas they implemented. Since part of the gameplay was that you could be chased by the wild Pokémon, walking/running around the area was a little bit challenging due to the square spaces they took up. The squares are technically a homage to the old pixel square space you’d work in with the RBG games, but I think the rule could benefit from being broken there. Other than the trouble navigating the place, the underground caves was one of my favorite add-ins in the game.

Overall, seeing that Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl paid homage to their direct predecessor and added more interesting gameplay made this game a definite favorite for me.
